Election or Voter Fraud

Election fraud, also known as voter fraud or electoral manipulation, refers to illegal interference in the electoral process aimed at altering outcomes, such as by inflating votes for a preferred candidate or suppressing votes for opponents. It encompasses actions by voters, officials, or third parties that violate laws to corrupt voter registration, ballot casting, counting, or certification.

Common methods include voter impersonation (using someone else's identity to vote), multiple voting (casting ballots more than once), ballot stuffing (adding fraudulent votes to boxes), vote buying (offering incentives for votes), intimidation (pressuring voters), spreading false information about voting procedures, and tampering with vote tallies or registration lists.

These tactics can occur at various stages, from pre-election registration to post-vote tabulation, though they often exploit vulnerabilities in verification processes.

While extensive research indicates that proven instances of election fraud are rare in the U.S., with rates estimated at less than one in a million ballots, documented cases do exist and highlight the need for vigilance.

For example, in Georgia in 1997, officials were convicted of vote buying schemes involving payments to voters and at least one ballot cast in a deceased person's name.

Another case from Hawaii in 1982 involved 27 people in a scheme to falsify voter registrations to boost a candidate, leading to convictions for election fraud and evidence tampering. Deceptive practices, such as distributing flyers with false election dates or robocalls misleading voters about results, have also been reported in states like Wisconsin and Maryland, often targeting minority communities.
